Over the years, I’ve tried dozens of UI setups. Some were too cluttered, others too empty, and a few just didn’t feel right during intense fights. After plenty of trial and error, I’ve settled on a layout that gives me everything I need without overwhelming my screen.
Below, I’ll walk you through my current UI settings — what I use, why I use it, and how you can try it for yourself.
General Layout
I like to keep the center of my screen as clear as possible. That’s where the action happens, and I need to see mechanics clearly. Health bars, cooldowns, and debuffs sit close to my character but not on top of it. I keep important buttons and trackers near the middle, while things like the minimap and chat stay off to the sides.
Action Bars
I use two main action bars at the bottom of the screen — one for core rotation and another for situational skills like interrupts, defensive cooldowns, and potions. Everything is keybound. Mouse-clicking abilities slows me down, especially in high-pressure content.
Nameplates and Unit Frames
For unit frames, I stick with a clean setup that shows everything I need at a glance — health, mana/energy, debuffs, and raid markers. I use Shadowed Unit Frames because it’s simple to configure and keeps the visuals sharp.
Enemy nameplates are always on, with cast bars enabled. I want to know what my target is doing, especially in dungeons and PvP.
Addons I Use
Here are the addons that shape my UI and help me stay focused:
- ElvUI – Handles most of my layout and gives full control over spacing, fonts, and colors.
- BigWigs or DBM – Boss timers and alerts. I prefer BigWigs for its minimal design.
- Details! Damage Meter – Easy to read, no performance lag, and helps track improvements.
- WeakAuras – I use this for cooldown tracking, buff uptime, and encounter-specific mechanics.
- OmniCD – Shows my party’s defensive cooldowns in dungeons. Very useful in Mythic+.
- Plater – Custom nameplates with a clean style. Helps me spot mobs that matter fast.
Chat and Combat Logs
I keep the chat window small and docked in the lower-left corner. I filter out most system messages during combat so they don’t get in the way. My combat log sits in a separate tab so I can review it between pulls without distractions.
Camera and Zoom Settings
I use maximum camera distance in raids and dungeons. It gives a better view of the area and helps avoid standing in bad spots. I also disable camera shaking and motion blur for clarity.
Keybinds and Mouse Settings
Everything important is bound to a key or mouse button. I use a 6-button mouse, with my most-used abilities tied to the side buttons. Movement is bound to WASD, with strafing instead of turning. I don’t use click-to-move — it feels too slow.
UI Philosophy
My setup focuses on clarity and reaction time. I want to know what’s happening without searching for it. The fewer unnecessary elements on screen, the better I can focus on mechanics, movement, and team communication.
Want to Try It?
If you’d like to try my layout, I’m working on a downloadable ElvUI profile and WeakAura pack. I’ll update this page once it’s ready.
Until then, feel free to ask questions about specific addons or settings — I’ll be happy to share more details or help troubleshoot.
Thanks for checking out my UI. It’s always a work in progress, but for now, it does exactly what I need.
